Abstracts

Abstract submission is closed

It is no longer possible to submit an abstract for an oral presentation, poster or demo.
Do you have any questions? Please send an email to physics@nwo.nl.

Deadlines

Oral presentation abstracts: 9 September 2024; 15:00 noon CET
Poster abstracts and demos: 4 October 2024; 15:00 noon CET

Submitting an abstract does not equal registration for NWO Physics. Registration must be done separately and will open at the beginning of October.

Abstracts can be submitted for oral presentations in the parallel sessions (12 minutes talk + 3 minutes questions), for poster presentations or a demo. Please follow the guidelines carefully when submitting your abstract(s). Abstracts have to be submitted by the person presenting.

Guidelines

The main objective of the parallel and poster sessions is for young researchers within the Dutch Physics community to present their work. Therefore, preference will be given to abstracts by postdocs and PhD candidates. Due to venue capacity, participation in the conference for MSc and BSc students cannot be guaranteed, therefore MSc and BSc students are not allowed to submit an abstract for an oral or poster presentation.

Please note that an abstract can be submitted either for an oral (parallel session) presentation or for a poster presentation. Please note that in case your oral presentation is not selected, it will not be converted into a poster presentation.

Prioritisation oral presentations
When submitting an abstract for a parallel session you will be asked to fill in the name of the group leader/Principal Investigator (P.I.) involved in the work to be presented. For oral presentation submissions, we ask for a short motivation from your P.I. as to why your proposal should be selected (max. 500 characters). Below* you will find more information on the abstract selection procedure.

New this year -  submit a proposal for a demo

In addition to abstracts for oral or poster presentations, this year you can also submit an abstract for a demo.

We encourage you to showcase your innovative research and technological advances through engaging and practical demonstrations. It is an excellent opportunity to present your work to a diverse audience and foster lively discussions.

Due to space constraints, we can accommodate a limited number of demos. Demos will be selected by NWO after the submission deadline. Proposals can be submitted by researchers at all career stages. It is possible to present your demo on one or both of the conference days.

Presentation selection procedure

The selection of oral presentations by the programme committee is based on the following criteria:

  • The year of your PhD work/postdoc position (NB: postdoc students will receive the same prioritisation as last-year PhD candidates);
  • Whether you have previously presented at NWO Physics;
  • The short motivation provided by your P.I. regarding your oral presentation.

For the selection of the poster presentation, the following guidelines will be followed:

  • The year of the PhD work/postdoc position (NB: postdoc students receive the same prioritisation as last-year PhD candidates);
  • We aim to select at least one poster presentation from each (working) group*. For each (working) group we can maximally accommodate half the total number of PhD candidates + postdoc positions. For example: in case of a total of 4 PhD candidates + 4 postdocs in one group, the maximum number of selected posters totals 4.

 (* a group consists of all PhD candidates and postdocs under the supervision of the same P.I.).

If the number of submitted posters does exceed the number of available slots, the programme committee will make a selection based on the submissions per theme also taking into account the programme of the parallel sessions.
