How the visitors of NWO Physics 2025 went beyond boundaries

One conference, multiple presentations, a lot of physicists and one theme: 'Beyond Boundaries'. NWO Physics is not only a great place to meet new people or discuss the latest discoveries. It's a place where you can comfortably step out of your comfort zone/ We asked multiple visitors how they went Beyond Boundaries during NWO Physics 2025. Read their answers below!

Even the project leader of NWO Physics 2025, Veerle Bogaards, went Beyond Boundaries: 'After watching from the sidelines last year it was quite exciting to organise this conference, I hope many visitors get to experience surpassing their boundaries and having a great time at NWO Physics 2025.'

Exploring different fields
It's easy to stick to what you know as it can be challenging to focus on subjects you may not be informed on. Multiple visitors recalled how fun it was to take a look at presentations that have nothing to do with their own field. So next time, don't be afraid to take a chance and spend some time in another scientist's shoes.

Presenting a poster
There's a first time for everything and creating and presenting a poster isn't an exception to this rule. For many attendees of NWO Physics 2025, this years edition was their first time presenting a poster. Although many feared that their posters wouldn't be visited or they wouldn't be able to answer a question, these fears were quickly put to rest. For many, presenting a poster resulted in intersting inquiries and suggestions that could aid in their research.

Connecting
It's easy to forget there are other physicists out there. All with their own set of talents, knowledge and experience. At a conference like NWO Physics it's almost inevitable that you will discuss your research or interests with other scientists. You just have to give it a chance. Multiple visitors shared that it was a difficult boundary that they had to cross, but that it resulted in worthwile connections and helpful insights.

All in all, there were plenty of physicists that dared to venture outside their own boundaries. For those who weren't ready to do so, better luck next time. See you at NWO Physics 2026 on 20 & 21 January!
